Ancient and Modern

Civilization One by Christopher Knight and Alan Butler
Christopher Knight and myself virtually tripped over the artificiality of the Moon. We had been researching an ancient measuring system, which originated at least 5,000 years ago. It included both a unique form of geomery, based on 366 degrees to the circle, and very specific linear units. Most notable amongst these is the unit called the Megalithic Yard, which is 82.966 cm in length. All of our findings regarding Megalithic measurement are to be found in our book Civilization One.

The Megalithic System

Sun, Moon and Earth
It became obvious that the Megalithic system, which is based on not only the size but also the mass of the Earth, could not have been invented by the Stone Age inhabitants of Britain and France. It must have been given to them in its complete form. What is more, the Megalithic system works equally well for the dimensions of the Moon and also the Sun. It must have been created with all three bodies in mind.

When we came to study the Moon in detail, in comparrison with the Earth and the Sun, we also found that our most modern form of measurement - the Metric system, must have been known to whoever planned and constructed the Moon. Both systems, the Megalithic system and the Metric system are endemic to the relationships of the Moon, Earth and Sun. This simply could not happen in the way it does by chance - It was planned.

Who Built the Moon?

Vetruvian Man
We thought about this for a long time and in the end it seemed self-evident that the only individuals who had the motive and ultimately the skill to do the job were humanity. We wondered at first if God could have been responsible but in the end this seemed most unlikely. We knew that the Moon has been added to the Earth and Sun system as an afterthought. God is omnipotent and would surely have got the details right in the first place?

No other agency seems anywhere near as likely to have done the job as our own species. There are many reasons, and these are all discussed in Who Built the Moon.

But is this Possible?

Tardis
Of course, if we are to achieve this unenviable feat, like Doctor Who we will first have to conquer time itself.

Time travel is a very complicated subject but we discussed it at length in Who Built the Moon. There is presently nothing in the laws of physics to prevent time travel and indeed, thanks to something that has happened in the last few months, it now seems more possible than ever.

Towards the Future - and the Past?

Hadron Collider CERN Switzerland
At some time in the future humanity will embark upon the most distant and most important journey it is ever likely to take. It will be necessary to travel 4.6 billion years into the past to complete a massive engineering project to create Earth's Moon.

It also seems certain that humanity will undertake many other trips to its own past, in order to set the scene for this epic adventure. These visits will be the subject of my next book 'Intervention', which is due to be published in October 2012.

To some extent we are all links in the chain that leads back in time over four and a half billion years and an unknown period into the future. Christopher Knight and myself are links in the chain because we recognised the message in a bottle that had been left for us and you are now links because you have read these pages.

What would happen to our world and indeed to the past of ourselves and every other living creature that has ever inhabited the Earth if we 'don't' create the Moon is unknown - and probably too awful to contemplate. For now I personally remain confident. As I write these words the evening shadows are falling and the delicate crescent of a New Moon is visible through my office window.

We will succeed because we 'have to' succeed!
