Alan's BooksBuy book from: Amazon.co.uk Amazon.comAcross the length and breadth of the British Isles there are many thousands of structures left to us from prehistory. From the largest henges, which are just about the oldest ritual structures on Earth, to the round houses of pre-Roman Britain, history presents a bewildering array of sometimes fantastic creations on the landscape. The trouble is that our history is so long and the array of structures on offer is so overwhelming, it can be extremely difficult for the average visitor to know what they are looking at, and that's where this book comes in. I was asked by my publisher to put together an A - Z of the type of prehistorica structures to be seen acorss the British Isles and to explain as much as is known about each type. From burial mounds to burned mounds and from long houses to brochs, I diligently progressed through the wonder of British preshistory. In this book I have also offered good examples of each sort of structure and informed the reader where they can be found. Map references and co-ordinates are included to make the job easier and I hope that what we have put together - with some great illustrations and pictures, will make anyone's visits to our shore that much more interesting, as well as helping those who already live here. Stonehenge is amazing, but there is much more to these islands than this one famous monument. Book Index |
